Hand Picked Selections

Hand Picked Selections is an independent national wine merchant based in Warrenton, Virginia. Wines are imported from France, Spain, Argentina and Greece, and produced in California.

The world of wine is increasingly divided between mass producers of soundly made wines that can lack personality, and small producers of wines of character that can be very expensive. Between these two extremes are an enduring number of artisans producing wines of quality and character at reasonable prices. The discovery, encouragement and support of these artisans to the benefit of wine consumers everywhere is the goal of Hand Picked Selections.

Great wines are rare and expensive. Very broadly speaking, there is general agreement as to which vineyards and which winemakers produce great wines. A merchant who wishes to sell great wine need only spend an appropriate amount of money. The goal of Hand Picked Selections is to choose uncommonly good wines, representative of their origins, at competitive prices in each category. Typically but not rigidly a Hand Picked Selection will be an Estate Bottled wine that can be purchased by the consumer for less than fifteen dollars.

As Americans incorporate wine into their daily lives, demand for the kinds of wine sold by Hand Picked Selections is growing. This book was written at the request of people who sell our wines and those wines are its main subject. However the book is also about personalities, cultures, history, food and other things. In fact, it concerns as much as I could include about what makes this my favorite planet.
