Preface – The
Second Edition
Character Counts was conceived as a tool for our sales force
and distributors. The initial printing of 2000 copies seemed enormous
and was expected to last at least 2 years.
They were gone within a few months. Besides our distributor’s
sales people, it turned out that retailers, restaurateurs, hoteliers
and consumers also wanted copies and many were willing to pay for
them. Sales people who wanted a dozen to give away asked for
a hundred more!
We considered a second printing, but there were too many excellent
suggestions for changes and additions. It made sense to hold off and
incorporate them in a second edition.
This new edition includes several additional producers, although
some have also been deleted. We have separated out Domaine du Pegau
from Feraud - Brunel and the increasing number of other projects initiated
by the tireless Laurence Feraud and her family. We represent more
than one grower in Bordeaux and Burgundy, but we limit these regions
and Champagne to one grower each in order to save space for wines
from lesser-known, and often therefore better value regions.
The book is bigger overall, with additional text, as well as more photos
and technical information. In this case, I hope that ‘bigger’ also
means ‘better’. I am grateful for your interest in this
book, even more so for your interest in the growers and their wines. |
